About

Minnie’s Maison mission is to clothe those in need in a dignified and welcoming manner.

Originally an outreach ministry of Sacred Heart Cathedral, the Clothing Center began in 1973 under the leadership of Monsignor Sebastian Menke. Upon assuming the pastor role at Sacred Heart, he immediately noticed the dire needs of the surrounding neighborhood which moved him to organize a parish clothing center. The renovation of St. Vincent’s Home and School produced the initial inventory when Msgr. Menke ordered all remaining clothing and furniture spread out on the school gym floor for all who needed it to see and take. The leftovers and additional donations were moved to the church basement, and women of the parish stepped in to operate the Clothing Center. Today it remains the longest-serving free clothing center in the Quad Cities and became a nonprofit independent from the church in 2016.
